GPX The Green Power eXchanger
Use energy differently with GPX !
IN BRIEF -
GPX is an innovation for the consumption of green energy. A GPX energy account works just like a bank account. New digital meters can be connected to GPX. Even an implementation per wall plug is possible.
GPX is meant for the smart meter. It bridges the digital connection of production and consumption. The concept shows the dynamics of demand and supply. These dynamics play a main role in balancing energy production and consumption for gridoperators. GPX gets you involved in the natural sources, showing the original characteristics like geographic location and the dynamics of production. GPX will use state-of-the-art technology for the whole chain. GPX will as much as possible use GPX for the production of any devices.
NEW FEATURES WITH GPX FOR THE USE OF ELECTRICITY
1. Ownership of (your own) solar panel at a remote location in the public electricity grid.
2. Balance with nature on two levels:

- kWh, power integrated over time, this is energy.
- kW, or Watt, is energy per time unit, this is power.
3. GPX is about buying specific energy certificates for the future use. You can store the certificates
bought as amount of energy on an account, working just like a bank account. This means your
energy is stored on a digital energy account. This would be a concept working as a pre-pay concept:
How to + add energy to the account?
The sun and wind book to the energy account, the total amount will increas as the sun shines on your panels.
How to - substract from the account?
Your own consumption books from the energy account.
This will give a better insight in the natural energy balance.
PRACTICAL MEANING
1. GPX is suited for shareholders of wind and sun; therefore suitable for (small) energy communities.
2. The balance display allowes to the user to make a choice:
- Total energy produced last week or last year.
- Power available now for consumption, such as presented with "dynamic demand" (a new concept in the UK based on electricity system balance)
3. The energy account offers a logic and effective insight in your energy balance. It is accountable, transparent and easy to access. Users become better acquainted with the energy source.
The PAST, the PRESENT and the FUTURE
- In the past there was use of all sources, there was anonymous power.
- In the present we have a choice for dedicated use of certain sources, with a coupling on paper (put your signature here).
- In the future we will have a certified use of certain sources, with a digital coupling to the meter of the source. (This is GPX in the essential form). GPX likes everybody to have a small part in the subsidized wind energy production. It translates your financial benefit in green in a real energy-share. GPX facilitates this coupling with your share in Green Energy production. This need not be precisely on your own roof, in your garden or in your home with a micro-CHP.
We present more about your past, present and future energy consumption, your energy package to buy. And your portfolio.

Frequently asked questions & answers about GPX and Green Energy
What is "grey" energy? With this form of energy, CO2 is a by-product caused by burning of fuels like coal, gas, lignite and the like. Nuclear energy gives no CO2, but the by-product is radioactive and may cause a problem. Electrical energy from wind, water and solar produce no CO2 as by-product, but are not always avoilable. Storage systems are expensive and not so efficient. | What is "green" energy? Green energy is electrical energy produced by sustainable sources like sun, wind and water. Green energy is a pure clean form of energy which everyone can buy. It is made of natural sources that give no or little CO2. However the natural sources are not always present, there is a new technologies underway for storing electrical energy, for example in electric cars. |
| How can green energy be delivered? Green energy is put directly into the grid at the point of production. The electricity grid has no possibility of storing energy. What is produced now, is consumed now. | How can green energy be sold? Production is measured exactly. The kilowatt hours counted are certified, in useable portions each with a unique number. The certificates are put on a smart card. The smart card gives the guarantee of origin for an amount of kilowatt hours. |
| How does one know that the kilowatt hours are really produced? The smart card contains a unique certificate. With the data on the card the green energy producer can be retreived via the internet. | What is on the internet? The internet page will provide information about the whereabouts of the wind park or hydro power plant and also information about when the green energy was produced. |
| How true is the guarantee? All produced, as well as all sold certificate numbers are stored in computer files. Every solar power plant, windmill (park) or hydro power plant has a sort of bank account number. The account shows kilowatt hours instead of money. The "bank" is part of the certificate issuing body. In the Netherlands this bank is located at TenneT and belongs to the Ministry of Economic Affairs. TenneT takes care that this is a well maintained watertight system. The development of GPX is closely watched by TenneT. | Who keeps watch over the system? The produced and sold kilowatt hours are under supervision of the accountants of TenneT, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Finance. |
| What does GPX do? The GPX device translates the produced green kilowatt hours on the smart card back again to the real green energy that you have bought. The device shows the usage of energy and gives a feedback on consumption. | How can green energy be on a smart card? There is no possibility to store green energy. That is why the kilowatt hours are being measured and certified. In the proposed case the smart card is the carrier of this certificate. |
| How does the GPX work? GPX is put in the socket of the wall-outlet. Charging is done by inserting the smart card into a slot. The GPX is now ready for use. | What does green energy on a smart card cost? Because the electricity meter in the meter cabinet keeps on running, even if you use the GPX, you pay only the surcharge of the green energy compared to the tariff for common energy. The price is around 4 Euro-cents per kilowatt hour for wind and 30 cents for solar. For the price of 5 Euro the purchase is about 125 kilowatt hours of wind energy.
|
| Why by wall-outlet and not the whole house? The production of Green energy is not unlimited. If everybody would use green energy for everything, the whole household there would be a shortage of green energy. | Is Green energy for everyone? Common energy will always be necessary. When the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing, then there is a shortage of green energy. Hydro power is only available in small amounts. Green energy, by wall outlet, is a good method to have many consumers encourage the production of green energy. In this way every household can be involved in the use of green energy. One can start the green beginning. |
| What happens if the amount of green energy in the GPX has been used up? GPX will then give a signal to let you know that it needs to be refilled. The GPX device as presented can be set in two modes. After the amount of green energy has been used the user can choose to let GPX switch itself off or to switch over to common energy. | How do I get new green energy on the smart card? At this moment the possibilities are being investigated to see if common chip cards are suitable as a carrier for green energy. If this works out well then the user can recharge the chip on the card. The possibility of a separate system with smart cards for green energy is being investigated as well as wireless possibilities. |
